Just Say No

Silk Screen Serigraph
26 x 22"
Edition: 135

The central image is Chief Elijah Harper, with eagle feather in hand sitting in the Canadian legislature. A copper is a traditional symbol of wealth, the four coppers represent the wealth of the country. Wealth may be resources, monetary or cultural. There is one paddle for each province. When paddling a canoe the pullers work together, as it is with a country. There are two sets of eagle feathers, crossed to represent the two nations - Native and no-native.

In addition to traditional Kwakiutl designs, David has created Contemporary Indigenous prints that represent the issues and history of our time. He believes that Northwest Native American traditional art is a foundation to build upon, not a boundary to restrain creativity..
