Nuclear Disaster Mask

Cedar Wood. Acrylic Paint. Cedar Bark

28" x 14" x 8"

This mask depicts a nuclear disaster; such as Chernobyl in Russia, Three Mile Island in the USA, or Fukoshima in Japan. Masks were used traditionally among Northwest Coast Native tribes to chronicle historical events; such as the Tsimshian Starvation Mask, in the collection of the Portland Art Museum. My contemporary masks build on this tradition, portraying contemporary events and issues.
