Frightened Child Transformation Mask

Alder Wood. Cedar Bark. Acrylic Paint.

30" x 20" x 10"

This Northwest coast Native mask was inspired by the survivors of the Native residential schools, who bear the emotional scars of their childhood into adulthood. The outer mask represents an angry and rebellious teen, which opens to reveal the frightened child within. This mask was commissioned in 1998 and was used on a speaking tour about healing.
