The Wildman of the Woods, a character from Kwakiutl legends, is also known as the Bukwis. He represents a man who has gone wild, and lives in the forest away from society. He eats ghost food and tries to offer this to living people he encounters in the woods, in order to bring them over to the ghost world. If the human eats his food, it turns them into a forest creature, like the Bukwis. He lives in an invisible house in the forest and the spirits of the drowned congregate there. The Bukwis Dance is still performed in Potlatches and Kwakiutl ceremonies today.
